Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Aside from missing the family all is well. Nothing has changed here, just seems that life continues to move along with no hope in sight. There is nothing man can do to really make a country wide difference. The natural cannot do what the supernatural can. Man has tried and failed miserably. Continue reading “Building A Roof”
Back in Haiti
Seems like every time I fly into PAP, Haiti, it just seems right. I feel like Haiti and Mexico are my second homes. I guess you can say you have really arrived in the midst of mission madness when you step of the plane in PAP to the look of uncontrolled confusion. Especially when you are by yourself and you’re not real sure what the pick up plan is. I knew Chuck would be here or there eventually, we just never nailed anything down for sure. That’s cool. I am used to flying by the seat of my pants. It is kind of humbling when you get bombarded by a bunch of people wanting to touch or tote your chum for a buck, let alone trying to taxi you to who knows where. To tell the truth I like being in this situation sometimes. I think it helps build character and faith that what you are doing is right on with God. We headed off to the guest house to make a plan for tomorrow. Chuck and Simon showed up, and I look forward to getting out in the country to see some of my good Haitian brothers and sisters. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Brother Kenny’s Ordination
Many thanks to Preston Trails Community Church
Kenny Phillips was invited to speak to members of Preston Trails Community Church July 30- August 1. It was a wonderful trip, supported by the families of Taylor White and Nick Johnson of Preston Trails. These wonderful supporters in Frisco, Texas are behind Give Me Shelter Ministries and are planning to help build 6 homes in Mexico with Give Me Shelter Ministries.
Haiti Mission – August 25 – September 5
Kenny will be returning to Haiti next week for 12 days. On the agenda:
- Visit Pastor Harry and see progress of his new home in Port Au Prince. He has almost completed the walls around his property (required for being able to build a new house and prevent theft). Please pray and support this mission to help Pastor Harry.
- Work with Truth Evangelistic Ministries on a Missionary House in Z’Oranges. This home will host visiting missionaries in Haiti. Kenny is working with George Truelove to build trusses for the roof.
- Meet with Peligre Hope Partners and Matt Eckhoff to discuss future orphanage building project for Give Me Shelter Ministries.
Please pray for Kenny and his family during this long mission trip, and prayerfully consider donating toward the $3500 required for this mission.
Brother Kenny to be Ordained Minister
On August 22, this Sunday, Kenny Phillips will be ordained as a minister of the gospel Southern Baptist style under the covering of a Southern Baptist church in Pensacola. Pastor Ken Loubriel from Beulah Baptist Church will ordain Kenny with Hershel Adams leading the ordination counsel. The counsel will include Pastor Mickey Hawkins, Rev. Will Tiller, several pastors from Pensacola and a few deacons from Beulah.
Kenny has preached in this church several times and it was a unanimous decision from the church body. We believe this will open doors that have not been opened yet and help the ministry out.
Kenny asks for your prayers and would love for all of you to be there. It will be at 6:00 pm Aug. 22nd at Beulah Baptist Church, 5605 Beulah Church Rd., P’Cola, Fl. From Ft. Walton Beach, take Interstate 10 west, take exit 5, go left two lights, turn left on hwy 99 ( there will be a church sign and a Tom Thumb store ), go about a mile or so and look for the church on the right on Beulah Church Rd.
Update from July Mexico Missions
It has been a busy month since we attempted to complete our mission in Mexico in July. Unfortunately, the drug wars have “hit home” in Nuevo Laredo, preventing us from completing this mission. Kenny and Pastor Felipe’s family were driving in town Friday, July 16 when they ran right into the middle of the violence. Fortunately, and certainly with God’s hand, Pastor Felipe was able to recognize the danger and helped guide Kenny through back streets to escape the violence. At one point, Kenny and Pastor Felipe’s family witnessed the car directly in front of them be violently hijacked at gunpoint.
The drug gangs took over the main highway and Kenny called Shalimar and Beachside members to tell them to NOT enter Mexico and Nuevo Laredo. Pastor Felipe even had to move his family for a while to escape the violence. It is still not safe, and Pastor Felipe has asked for your prayers regarding this violence.
We will eventually return to build the home for Sanjuana Monreal Trujillo, once the violence subsides. We desperately need your prayer for our Brothers and Sisters in Nuevo Laredo.
On a positive note, Kenny was able to work alongside with Shaun Ellis at Dr. Tony Clark’s annual dental clinic at the orphanage. The orphanage is well protected from such violence and gang activity.
Help Us Sponsor Nathanael
Nathanael is special to Give Me Shelter Ministries. He is Pastor Felipe’s and Anna Hernandez’s son, and he has witnessed much of the work we have done in the Colonias since he was a young boy. Now approaching 16 years of age, Nathanael is studying English in the hopes that he will be a translator for English speaking missionaries at local churches. They will build a home for Sanjuana Monreal Trujillo, pictured above. The group will also minister to children at Casa Hogar Elim orphanage. Ft. Walton Beach Dentist Tony Clark will do a weekend dental clinic. We thank all of you who continue to contribute to this work being done in Christ’s name in Mexico.
