It’s amazing what a good night sleep will do for you especially when you’re in familiar territory (beach). After breakfast we headed to town to pick up supplies for the orphanage we would visit later. Our first stop would be to make good on a promise Harry and I made to the orphanage. Last time we were down, there was a need for a stove so the cookers would not have to always cook outside.
So we found a good deal on a nice stove that included a gas tank and all the hook ups. From there I took the team to the market to shop for food and supplies. It’s always a trip to go to the market and buy off the streets but that’s usually where you get the best deal. So we loaded up on rice, beans, corn meal, flour, oil, spaghetti, macaroni, oil, maggie, garlic, lemons, soap etc. This was not part of the team’s gig but they were gracious to give some time up and expirience what it takes to face the different tasks of Haiti.
We were in town all morning gathering the supplies. Once we had shopped till we dropped we headed for lunch and then we would go to the orphanage. We arrived at the orphanage to some very distant looking faces. Things are hard here and it will take a major effort for this orphanage to work. GMSM only can do so much and we will do what we can when we can. They were excited though to see the food and the stove and the team once again did a great job reaching out to the little ones. I made it all very clear to the children and the workers that these gifts are from God and we are just the people that He allowed to deliver these blessings and we are all a team working together.
The team had fun with the kids doing Bible games and we got the stove all hooked up. We hung out for a couple hours and as the time slipped away we had to hit the road. We took a quick ride down the coast before dark so the team could check out the area and take in some more of the country’s natural beauty. We headed back to the hotel and had a very good meal, did devotion and then hit the sack. Praise God for whom all blessings flow.
