Haiti Mission Trip Oct. 26- Nov. 4, 2010
Praise God from whom all blessings flow! Once again I head to what is fast becoming one of two homes away from home, Haiti and the other Mexico. I am traveling again with my childhood friend and fellow surfer Dale Winslette. He is accompanying me to Z’Orange to help with the mission house being constructed by Truth Evangelistic Ministries. We will meet fellow missionary and dear friend George Truelove in Port au Prince and from there travel to the province. Our entire time will be spent in the province where there will be little to no communication. That is why the website has not been updated until now. Our first order of business will be to get supplies for our stay in Z’Orange and then head up the mountain and into the valley. It will be nice to have just the three of us out there by ourselves to fellowship, work and just be away from all the craziness of Port.
Work went as usual for us with long hard days of metal construction, welding and all the dangers that go along with working with heavy materials. Chuck would soon be down to meet a new team coming in and we were there to continue the roof construction for the new “mission compound”. George and Dale were a hoot and then you add me to the mix (and all know how insane I can be) and it was total hilarious chaos at times! There were also many moments of serious fellowship and sharing with each about our individual calling and vision. The one thing that we always came to agreement on was that it is not about us, but Christ and Kingdom expansion. That can be accomplished in so many ways as long as we look to God for the plan.
I was also able to also spend some killer quality time with Pastor Harry my Haitian brother. GMSM bought some rice, beans and spaghetti for Pastor Harry’s church. Dale and I went to his church, Savon Blonde Baptist Church and helped with the food distribution. We did not even come close to making a dent in the needs in his area of Croix des Bouquets. He is such a hard working servant of Christ and we hope to be very instrumental in getting his house built. So hey, if you want to help just look a little further on the website and let God speak to you. We got a chance to have lunch with his wife Nadege and precious two year old daughter Djina. JoJo and his two sweet daughters also joined us. I am always in awe of how awesome God is and why he chose me to serve and minister in two areas where the pastors that we work with are so true to their calling. I see so much junk around where it always seems to be “what’s in it for me?” I am always in prayer that God would not allow me to lose focus and get “too big for my doggers (britches)”.
As we wrapped up the work for this sojourn I realize that work we were doing is a “drop in the bucket” when you look at the Country as a whole. Haiti is still hard and will always be hard. As we part ways with George and the rest of the crew, I am truly saddened by the prospect of Hurricane Tomas blasting Haiti out of the water. Only to compound problems created by the earthquake and man made errors made along the way. Pray for people in the tent cities and villages on the down side of the mountains. How much suffering can the Haitians endure?
